Discussion The Switch version of The Case of the Golden Idol resets your progress whenever you exit to the main menu or play a different game.

I'm hoping someone else has a solution for this/I'm just missing something incredibly obvious, but it appears that there's no way to save your game in The Case of the Golden Idol.

My wife and I spent a couple of hours last night playing through the game and got to scenario 6 or 7. This afternoon when we go to continue playing we were back at the prologue, even though the main screen says "Continue." We signed in and out of every profile on the Switch in case we forgot which profile we played under, but, sure enough, when we "Continue" it just starts us at the very beginning of the game.

My wife played in handheld mode and powered through the previous scenarios since we already knew the solutions, but as soon as I went back to the main screen to see if I had missed an obvious save button, we were back at the prologue again.

There's no way a game releases with this kind of bug, right? I'm not here to dog pile on the developers, I know this is a small indie team, but that kind of oversight is insane.

Even worse, I'm not seeing anything online about it. So, maybe, hopefully, I'm just a huge idiot and missing something obvious, but the impression I get is that the community for this is so small that it hasn't been reported yet.

PSA If you lost your Nintendo account's backup codes, you can still reach out to support

I recently bought a second switch, but I forgotten my Nintendo account password. For some reason I didn't save the backup codes when I'd setup the 2FA years ago, and I'd changed my phone since so my Google authenticator is empty as well. I googled for solutions and one real solution is to contact support.

I contacted Nintendo support through chat, and they've been really helpful. I was asked to provide the current console's serial number and email address associated with it, and my birthday. That's how they're able to verify me and disabled my 2FA. From then on, I was able to reset my password.

Tl:Dr, If you lost your backup codes, just contact Nintendo support to disable your 2FA. Preferably save the codes from the start though.

Discussion How does BOTW do it? How is it so bloody immersive? :)

I’ve always been a cynical skeptic, contrary and acerbic by nature, I feel that anything that’s immensely popular and gets rave reviews is probably nowhere near as good as it purports to be…

I always thought “meh, BOTW is just another mediocre adventure game with pretty graphics, pretty, but shallow” (I’ve never been a Zelda fan, not an RPG fan…)

I was wrong, at least in this case…

BOTW is an amazing masterpiece, the gameplay is so immersive, so engrossing, it slowly draws you into the world of Hyrule, and before you know it, it’s 3 AM (thankfully it’s the weekend, who needs sleep anyway? ;) )

The open-ness of the world is amazing, solutions to most problems are not scripted, and are open to interpretation… can’t get past that camp of Bokoblins blocking the road at the bottom of the hill? Climb to the apex of the hill, conjure a round bomb (the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch?) roll it down the hill into the camp from safely atop the hill, and count to five! No, wait, …three!

And someone tell me how a 5.5” LCD screen (I’ve got the Lite…) can give me vertigo! Make me hold my breath while climbing a mountain, and just generally cause a height related ‘pucker factor’ when I’m lying on my bed, which sits solidly on box springs on the floor and is only about 2’ off the ground?

Climbing the Dueling Peaks to Shee Vanderbilt shrine is literally breathtaking! I just wish I was a tenth of a bit as fit as Link, is it normal to be envious of the fitness level of a group of pixels on a screen? ;)

Climbing that peak, having to balance grip, endurance, and the cold (Red ChuChu jelly seems to work serviceably as a heat source) had my senses tingling…

I know I’ve barely scratched the surface here, but this is the most immersive game I’ve ever played, it’s worth every accolade it’s received…

Discussion Now that the rest of the Super Mario Advance series is on NSO, can we talk about how insane it is that Nintendo still doesn't allow us to rebind the original systems' buttons assignments?

It is utterly insane that such a basic feature (to change, for example, the GBA's A and B buttons to the B and Y buttons, respectively, on the Pro Controller/Joy-Con) has been absent since the NSO's launch in 2018. It was criticism back then and it's still criticism now. (Just look at how the N64 NSO launch went. Controls still haven't been touched to this day.)

Hilariously, the All-Stars incarnations of SMB USA and 3 let you change the controls, but not World or Yoshi's Island. Meaning, with World and Yoshi's Island in particular, you have two different control schemes to content with depending on which version you're playing with no way to change it. (No, changing whether you hold or press twice to fire eggs doesn't count.)

SMA3 has a better control scheme in which tossing eggs is on R, rather than A on the SNES (which was always awkard to me), but I still want Yoshi's tongue to be on (NS) Y and jump to be on (NS) B.....like it is on the SNES game.

And please do not tell me to remap buttons in System Settings, because I already tried that. It's not adequate enough of a solution, because:

  • You have to go into System Settings every time you want to change it, or change it back to default

  • It swaps the buttons globally, even in the system menus

  • Yeah it swaps the buttons in the games, but it also swaps them in the application menus too, which is not what I (and many others) want

  • It doesn't absolve Nintendo of criticism on this issue

Discussion Finally picked up a Switch, this is a great console! (Switch Lite)

I've been looking for an excuse to pick up a Switch for a while, and have been getting a lot of calls at work (Mac repair shop) asking if we repair Switches, which we don't, i suggested it to management, and was shot down, so i figured, why not start my own business for out of warranty switch repairs?

that means id have to buy a couple switches to learn teardown on, so i picked up an inexpensive Lite on the List of Craig that came with Pokemon Legends Arceus and BOTW...

Problem is, i don't *want* to take it apart now, its too much fun to play, so now im looking for cheap broken ones to practice on...

I'm a longtime Nintendo guy, SNES, Game Boy (from original to pocket, to SP, to 3DS XL) N64, Gamecube, I've enjoyed 'em all, but the Switch, it captures the magic of the original NES and GB so well, its not about horsepower or graphics, its about gameplay!

i know im preaching to the choir, but I've had more fun in Arceus an d BOTW than I've had in any other game in recent memory, and im not a huge fan of RPG or Pokemon , they're enjoyable, sure, but im really enjoying the open world aspect of both, im having just as much fun figuring out recipes in BOTW, and stalking and hunting Pokemon in Arceus... and i love how organically the gameplay lessons flow in BOTW, the chopping down trees exercise leads organically to a way to bridge the chasm blocking progress, and i couldn't help but smile at the "Solid Snake" reference of using a barrel to sneak past the pig-ogre critters camp...

ill eventually take my Lite apart to see how it works, but for now, i want to keep gaming on it...

Discussion What're you playing this weekend? 5/26

Hello everyone! Welcome to the weekend!

I have still been exploring the skies, lands, and caves of hyrule in Tears of the Kingdom. 70ish hours in and still going strong, i should maybe do more of the story so i don't get burnt out by the end, but hey still enjoying wandering and doing what I do.

What will you be getting into?

Collecting Lego blocks across galaxies and franchises? Talking to Beedle about the best bugs? Trying to remember where the warp whistles are?

Let me know below!

Game Rec Any good minigame collections like Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics?

Me and my siblings have been really enjoying Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics though admittedly I'm afraid we are losing some interest. Our favorite games on it are Yacht Dice, Darts, and Ludo. Some other minigame collections we have are Super Mario Party, Kirby Dream Buffet, and Warioware Get it Together. We didn't like the Kirby party game very much but got a decent amount of enjoyment from the other two(though agreeing the mario party game was one of the weakest we've ever played).

I'm considering buying the new Mario Party but after how much we disliked Super Mario Party I'm a bit apprehensive. I also kinda wanna try carnival games but the reviews are atrocious. If there are any other fun minigame collections, please let me know.
